Karelle Levy Fiber Artist & Designer in Residence
The Stone House Studio is thrilled to have Karelle Levy in residency this summer. Karelle is a renowned knitwear designer and fiber artist, recognized for her groundbreaking work in a sustainable fashion. In 2002, she founded KRELwear, a collection celebrated for its zero-waste approach and commitment to inclusive knitwear. Throughout her career, Karelle has seamlessly merged the realms of fashion and art, employing innovative textile engineering to redefine the boundaries of wearable art.
Her artistic vision extends beyond clothing, with large-scale artworks that catalyze community engagement and education. Karelle shares her passion at art fairs across the nation, fostering connections and imparting her knowledge to enthusiasts of all levels. She also produces work on commission for well-known artists, brands, and spaces including Sanford Biggers, Hublot, TM SISTERS Whirl Crash Go for Locust Projects, and World Happiness Summit.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Karelle collaborates with private clients and boutique establishments across the United States and the Caribbean, bringing her unique blend of creativity and sustainable design to a diverse clientele.
Karelle engages and connects with the community through fiber arts. Her project, The Interknit, is a site specific piece made of yarn, and pom poms made by the community. This is not only educational, but also activates each individual to create a small colorful fluffy ball and connect it to the ever growing world wide web.
The Project: The InterKnit; connecting individuals to the literal “world wide web" through stitches, knots and pom-poms. The Interknit is an ever-expanding site-specific interactive installation that encourages viewers to participate by adding their stitches to the piece. The Interknits grows and morphs with each environment it becomes part of.
Karelle will be doing her interknit workshops while she is in residence and all attendees will be able to take part in her interknit workshop during The Nautical Festival. In addition, Karelle will present her KRELwear designs at a booth in the Arts & Crafts Fair at The Nautical Festival.
